TELLURIDE MOUNTAIN RESIDENCE

This majestic ultramodern signature residence was designed to capture the breathtaking landscape of the surrounding mountains. Roof planes extend upward, opening the home toward the sky, with branching supports columns reminiscent of trees. Rather than minimize the home’s structural elements, the architecture embraces these supports, making them a distinguishing feature of this home. The lighting echoes the architecture, seeking to highlight the support columns and the intersection of the support columns with the ceiling planes. Following this lead, the lighting is also instrumental in creating floating architectural elements using hidden horizontal LED components.

WAINSCOTT RESIDENCE

The design of this modern home sought to optimize both the indoor and outdoor spaces. Great attention was given to both the lighting and architecture at the exterior living spaces. Linear slot lighting harmonizes with the structured design and manicured landscape. Uplights and downlights are used in conjunction with sculptural and art elements, creating points of interest with intense highlights and shadows. The exterior to interior transitions are showcased with open window walls allowing free movement throughout. Floating horizontal planes and linear accents are carried from one location to another with uplights and downlights creating accents for artwork. The control system provides easy access for the color changing pool lights.

THE BUNKER

STARWOOD RESIDENCE

This home was configured to take advantage of the panoramic mountain views, which provide a backdrop for the owner’s extensive art collection. Every wall in this home is configured to allow current and future works of art and had to be lit accordingly. Considering the time and care that was taken to curate the art collection, the lighting is designed to be unobtrusive and augment the collection. As a second goal, the lighting sought to embrace the outdoor environment to make it a continuation of the interior space. Lighting placed within the landscaping and site walls draws the eye through the large window glazing to the exterior. The crisp lines that were created with the architecture are mirrored within the lighting details. Integrated linear details take a minimalist approach, with the effect of the light, not the source of light being prominent.

KIVA

Unique and perfectly tailored to the homeowners’ style and personalities, this eclectic river house celebrates collections curated from around the world. Architectural details are emphasized with various lighting styles creating a foundation to experience the home. Linear lighting runs along steel elements, reinforcing the metal structure while in grade uplights graze the curved board-form concrete wall, emphasizing it’s craftmanship. Recessed lighting blends seamlessly into plaster ceilings encouraging closer viewing of the various wall hangings. The lighting works as a discreet element, used to emphasize the architecture and collections.

ELK PEAK RANCH

This majestic mountain home was designed as a family retreat, a place to get away and form lasting memories. Uniquely situated, the home is designed to take in the adjacent fields and the panoramic mountain range beyond. Years of coordination and detail oriented design have resulted in a unique, exceptional, and welcoming family home. A variety of linear lighting details were used to bring the exquisite ceiling finishes to life. The collaborative design of the shade and drapery pockets allowed linear lighting to be added along the length of the great room creating a soft consistent illumination. Barrel vault ceilings required the addition of a substantial crown around the perimeter of the room, mimicking the drapery valence at the windows. Where applicable, the barrel vault detail continues to the exterior of the home, forming a unified ceiling plane through the arched windows.

Relax in the over-sized outdoor spa with lighted water feature and fireplace or enjoy the versatile open concept theater and adjacent game room and bar. White stone walls cladding the interior spaces are grazed with linear fixtures and interest while a variety of decorative fixtures anchors the spaces. This custom residence has a timeless design and unbeatable location that redefines luxury.

MORNINGSTAR RESIDENCE

This mountain residence combines traditional architecture with modern lines and rustic finishes to create a unique home that compliments its environment. The lighting throughout the home was designed to highlight the architectural forms with minimal impacts from the light source. The rooms’ multiple layers of light are easily dimmed with a house-wide control system. Customized scenes for each room were set to balance the lighting and create comfortable environments. Consistency of design, accents of architectural forms and materials, and ease of use were the basis for this design and the end result is remarkable.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE RESIDENCE

This mountainside home embraces structural architecture with a Native American influence. Wood and stone finishes are emphasized with a variety of techniques creating a multi-layer canvas that invites occupants to explore the home, guided by integrated or placed totems and enjoying private nooks. The neutral architectural palate is offset with pops of color introduced with interior furnishings and artwork. The lighting mimics this dichotomy, using hidden linear sources in combination with minimally dispersed downlights as a base layer, then accenting with strategically placed downlights for artwork and decorative pieces, creating drama and accenting the homes distinct style.

WRIGHTS ROAD

This contemporary mountain home is brought to life by using layers of warm LEDs, fluorescents, and incandescent sources to enhance the architectural features and create a soothing environment. Used as a full time residence by the Architect and his family, the lighting design needed to be flexible to accommodate rotating art pieces and family treasures. A large entertaining Great Room, Family Den with Children’s Library and a working office are all part of this unique home.

ORINDA

Horizontal planes ground this contemporary home which boasts amazing views of the Northern California hillside. Clean architectural design led to a minimalist approach to lighting design by using square aperture downlights as both general and accent light throughout the home. Uplights and hidden linear elements highlight architectural materials while carefully selected decorative fixtures create drama and visual interest. Landscape fixtures highlight the stone façade, as well as a water feature while tree mounted lighting throws a leaf projection patterns along the pathways, creating a moonlit feel.

RED BUTTE RESIDENCE

Harmony with the outdoors was the goal in lighting this contemporary riverfront property. Integrating lighting into the architecture was key in keeping the focus on the environment of this home. Clean lines and stone walls through out are echoed by linear fixtures and emphasized with strategically placed uplights.

ANDESITE FAMILY LODGE

Nestled away on the Montana slopes, lies this rustic family retreat. A variety of chandeliers and decorative fixtures lend an inviting warmth to the golden wood tones and stone accents. With the occasional note of contemporary linear lighting, this cabin is the perfect combination of modern amenities and rustic mountainside living.

ARCHITECTURE – Candace Miller Architects INTERIORS – Victoria Hagan GENERAL CONTRACTOR – North Fork Builders PHOTOGRAPHY – Gibeon Photography

ASPEN ARTIST RESIDENCE

This mountain home’s “uncompromisingly modern” architecture is a union of glass, stone, steel and wood. Following this lead, the lighting design is used to strengthen these elements, emphasizing steel and reclaimed barn wood with linear lighting. Contemporary light fixtures create visual interest with unconventional style and placement. Recessed and surface mount accent lighting illuminates the artists canvases and statuary. The spaces are open and inviting, celebrating the surrounding environment.

RIVER HOUSE II

This contemporary home boasts high ceilings and strong linear elements. Square architectural luminaries compliment the aesthetic and highlight the artwork and furnishings. Backlighting glass and metal elements throughout the house creates visual interest and contrast between the architectural materials. The lighting control system integrates with the home’s other automated systems to create a clutter free, fully controlled environment.

ASPEN REMODEL

Designed to realize the owner’s desire for both a comfortable, relaxing space and a way to showcase their extensive art collection, this traditional 1980’s style home was completely remodeled into a modern, contemporary home. The lighting emphasizes the native stone , teak siding, and patina copper panels that provide a contemporary counterpoint to the original structure. Special attention was paid to the gallery spaces within the home to ensure that the artwork could be properly illuminated with high color rendering. A reconfigured floorplan takes advantage of the site’s views and provide spaces for entertaining, as well as private retreats.
